Education in FATA

While the FATA especially North Waziristan is in hot/burning news these days and our rulers in Islamabad have immense pressure on their selves there is no one or trivial number of people have time to address the actual problems of tribal people.
Today i would like one of very basic problems for to contribute to some extent in the efforts for uplifting the core problems of this area and people.

Educational facilities/institutions:
The worst you can see in FATA is nothing but the miserable condition of public sector educational institutions especially on primary and secondary level.
Educational institutes supposed for imparting primary level of education say Montessori or kindergarten schooling are given to Maliks (The tribal elder and Political spies for their respective tribes) who use the building as their well built guest houses plus construction contract and class four positions are their other gifts and the worst scenario is that the teachers appointed for services in their school also enjoy luxuries with the consent of tribal elders.
The children of these so-called leaders enjoys the special political agent scholarships for studies in the settle areas and consequently they are always "Loyal tribal elders".
I was stunned to know that the education department in respective tribal agency observe sub divisional quota for appointment of teachers in the schools of tribal districts ignoring all the standards of merits.
Second thing that the authority for education in FATA have become salary and furniture distributor and the influential tribal elders have made them nearly zero in respect of executing their administrative powers.
What makes the situation worst is that, that political set up have very less interest in education as they more concerned about maintaining the status cue as compared to works that can actually bring change in FATA.
Many among Pakistanis/international community may not know the fact that there is no professional educational institute(College for Medicine or Engineering/business) in the Tribal areas of Pakistan but instead the students of tribal areas are given seats in colleges/universities of Pakistan for acquiring higher education (pathetically many students miss their seasons when their respective quota is filled).
On top of that tribal students who get their professional/higher educational credentials migrates to the settle districts of Pakistan hence nullifies the supposed/planned impact to their tribes (only those get education in medicine opts for return as they have better profitability market their), but , why would they return to their tribe when there is no/zero use of their education.
The question arises here is how can these tribal people be uplifted and can be made equal and equivalent part of the urban/settled areas of Pakistan?
One among the solutions is to have Affective Network of Educational institutes, the Educations office must 100% free from the administrative/political agent influences.

The Word Wazirastan :.

'Wazir' , 'Stan' , is the break of WAZIRASTAN , Wazir is name of Major Tribe in Wazirastan and Stan Means Land.

Wazirastan is devided in North and South Parts in North Wazirastan there are Two major Tribes Dawar and Wazir , While in South Wazirastan there are Masud and Wazir tribes.

These two regions comes in FATA(Federally Administered Trible Areas) , known as Trible belt along the North West Borders of Pakistan becomes Part of NWFP( North West Frontier Province) of Pakistan.
Among 7 Agencies of Trible Belt 2 are North and South Wazirastan Agencies.

Location :.

Both These Agencies are located at borders of Afganistan with their Paktica Vilayat like Khost and Chaman Borders.
Bannu and Tank are the Settled cities that resides on Wazirastan from the settled areas of Pakistan.

History :.
Like the People of other Trible agencies , the People of Wazirastan also voted to Muhammad Ali Jinnah to be Part of Pakistan in 1947.

Languages:.

Pashto is spoken in Wazirastan but locally one can differentiate the Tone of Dawar , Wazir or Masuad tribes and the Speaking Tone is different from Pashto spoken in Peshawar, Queta or Afganistan and people have difficulty in Understanding their tone.
Very less no. of People can write Pashto in Wazirastan but majority of them can understand Urdu and write it.

Religion :.

The Population is 100% Muslim and Interesting thing is that they are 100% Sunni Muslim from Devband Faqha.

North Wazirastan :. Miran Shah(Capital City) , Mir Ali , Razmak , Datha Khel , Spin Wam , Dosali.
South Wazirastan :. Wana (Capital City) , Makin , Jandula , Spinkai Raghzai

Educational Institutions:.

North Wazirastan Agency:.
Government Postgraduate College Miran shah , Govt Commerce College Miran shah , Polytechnic Institute in Miran shah , Vocational Training Institute in Miran shah , Govt Degree College in Miran shah. Elementarty Teachers Training College in Mirali and Govt Degree College in Mirali.
There are Higher Secondary Schools in Miran shah City , Mirali , Edik village, Muhammad Khel , Data khel Dosali , Razmak.
Cadit college Razmak , Al Azhar public School in miran shah , Army Public School in Miran Shah and Tochi Public School in Miran Shah.

Radio Stations:.
North Wazirastan Agency , Radio Station Miran shah and Radio Razmak run by Civil Secertriate peshah Media Cell section.
Total in Local Language they are broadcasting Transmissions 3 hours in the Morning and 3 Hours in the Evening.
Major Programs includes Religious Programs , Literature , Music , Sports , Health , Educational Programs and Discusion/Interviews and Talkshows.
Majority of the people are listning to Radio as intertainement and Information source due to easy available source for information and recreation.
All the staff members from Dawar and Wazir, Masoud tribes.
Cable TV network is only limited to Miran shah City like in Mirali and Razmak , mostly people will use settelite TV channels on Dish antenna.

No local Newspaper/Magzine is being published however all National Newspapers are available.

Administration :.



Each Agency is administered by Political Agent who is agent for Govornor of NWFP , Political Agent is accopanied by Assistan PA and political Tasildar. Each Tasildar is resposible for one are like Miran shah has its own tasildar , Mirali , Razmak , Dathkhel and Spin wam etc.



All other departments like TESCO(Trible Electric Supply Corporation) , C&W(Construction and Works) etc have their own heads , but they have to report the progress/Activity to The Political Agent and have to present their monthly action plane to him.



Khasadar Force :.



Their is no regular Police in Trible agencies , Khasadar personel perform as Police. The whole area of Wazirastan have been divided in parts given to Tribes and each tribe is responsible for the security of that particular area.

For Example Tribe Tappi have their own boundaries or say area , they are resposible for their area and Political Agent will held resposible that particular tribe if some thing happen in thier area. Once one car was hijecked in Tappi tribe's area on the Following day Political agent Khasadars arrested 7 persons from Tappi Tribe and Summoned the Tappi tribe elders and asked them to recover the car.

The assigned area would be gaurded by the Khasadars of that particular tribe and Political Agent will be paying Their wages.

Khasadars were appointed by The britian Govt in their time , now if some old Khasadar dies then his son will be appointed on his place and he can sale that post also if he decides so to some other of their own tribe person, Interesting thing is that if one is Perminant Khasadar he can send another person if he does not want to perform his duties by himself , he will pay some portion to that person and the rest will be given to him.

Actually these Khasadar Posts were given to Influential people only.



Govt has now started appointing Lavies personel having Equivalant Paramillitary rankes and wages plus some elligibity requirements.
